Social assistance (english guide)
Before you seek social assistance, you have to contact Jobcenter Assens.
You can apply for social assistance if you are unable to support yourself and your family.

Procedure
When you apply for social assistance
Register as unemployed
On your first day as unemployed, you must:
Contact Jobcenter Assens to register as unemployed before applying for social assistance. You can either show up in person or call and make an appointment.
It is important that you register as unemployed on the first day of unemployment in order to receive social assistance. It is therefore not possible to apply retrospectively.
Once it has been determined whether you are entitled to social assistance, the benefit will be paid from the day you have made yourself available for work at the job centre.

During the visitation interview, you and our employee will talk about your educational and employment background, as well as your wishes for education and employment.
If it is relevant in relation to being able to get employment or education, we will also discuss your general social situation.
We must focus on the job market, and it is our core task to constantly think about your opportunities for employment. This means we will guide and support you in preparing a strategy for your job goals.
You will also be reviewed about your rights and obligations to social assistance.
Visitation interview
During the visitation interview, you and our employee will talk about your educational and employment background, as well as your wishes for education and employment.
If it is relevant in relation to being able to get employment or education, we will also discuss your general social situation.

Application for the social assistance
Once you have registered with the job centre, you can apply for the social benefit. You can do this via our online self-service (in danish) , which you can find further down the page.
You must have the following documents ready for documentation:
If you have been dismissed or have resigned yourself, you must use:
- notice of dismissal
- bank statements for the last three months on all bank accounts
- declaration of consent
- If you are married, you must also need your spouse's bank statements for the last three months on all accounts.
- If you have stopped your education, you must also use a letter of cessation of education from the education institution.
- As a foreigner, you also need your registration contract/contract
- If you need help applying for the benefit, you can book an appointment for help with the application.

The department Uddannelse, Job og Integration handles tasks with recipients of social assistance, young people under 30 years of age without a qualifying education, and citizens covered by the Integration Act who must be offered an integration program. We also work with business internship, Rehabilitation, Repatriation and Case processing for citizens not receiving any benefits.
